Minutes of the last meeting held on Sunday, 2nd March 2009.
Draft minutes of the meeting had been circulated to members of the Health Group and any notified amendments subsequently carried out by the acting secretary. The meeting accepted the amended minutes as a true record of the meeting.
Matters arising from the Minutes.
The matters arising from the minutes of the meeting held on 15th February 2009 were the subject of items on the agenda of the current meeting.
The Data Protection Act.
Many breeders/owners of Bedlington terriers have requested that the BTHG publish a list of the results of the COMMD1 tests carried out by the Animal Health Trust. At their meeting on 15th February 2009 Derek Owen was asked to contact the Information Commissioner’s Office to ascertain the Health Group’s position in relation to the Data Protection Act.
The reply to this request for clarification was discussed at great length and it was agreed that it would be extremely difficult to avoid presenting at least some data that may be interpreted as an infringement under the Act. It was decided that, in the circumstances, results of the COMMD1 tests carried out by the AHT could not be made available on the website.
The advice to any Bedlington owner who is contemplating breeding from a bitch is to check with the prospective stud dog owner re the CT status of the dog.
At their meeting on 20th April 2008, the Health Group reviewed the constitution and agreed certain amendments that, in accordance with the existing constitution, would be submitted for ratification at the AGMs of the 3 breed clubs.
These amendments were agreed by the NBTC at their AGM. However, both the MBTC and the BTA requested further minor modifications to certain clauses. The suggested changes were discussed and, where considered appropriate, were agreed.
Eye Testing and the Accredited Breeders Scheme.
It was drawn to the attention of the meeting that litters of puppies will only be registered by the Kennel Club under the Accredited Breeders Scheme if the parents have been eye tested under the KC/BVA/ISDS Eye Test Scheme within the previous 2 years.
There is only one eye condition, Total Retinal Dysplasia, listed for Bedlington terriers under Schedule A of the scheme.
After a lengthy discussion it was agreed to seek clarification on the nature of TRD and on the requirements of the scheme with regard to Bedlington terriers.
The Mission Statement.
The mission statement currently posted on the Health Group web-
Concern was expressed that, for various reasons, the establishment of a “library” of reference documents, as proposed in the mission statement, was, for a number of reasons, not really practicable. After some discussion it was agreed that the same objective could be achieved, at least in part, by compiling a list of “links” to relevant web sites on the Internet and that this could be published on the Health Group web site.
Any Other Business.
Several items were drawn to the attention of the group “for information” only.
Date of the next Meeting.
The next meeting will be held on Sunday, 18th October, 2009.
The meeting closed at 3 pm.
